Cooking Method

Step 1 (Marination)

Marination is very important in every recipe of tandoori chicken. In a bowl, mix all the above ingredients (spices) and apply them to the chicken pieces.

Before applying the mixture, mark the deep cuts on the chicken pieces. Doing this, the mixture of spices will absorb in the chicken and it will become tender.

For the juicy texture of the tandoori chicken, also add 1 tablespoon of the cooking oil in it.

Once the marination is done keep it in the refrigerator for a minimum of two hours.

Step 2 (Frying, Steaming, Grilling)

However, I will prefer the deep-frying method because it is easily accessible at home.

Take a deep kadhai and heat at least 1 kg of cooking oil.

Now put chicken pieces according to the capacity of your kadhai.

Cook from both sides for a minimum of 10-15 minutes. Once the colour turns reddish it means tandoori chicken pieces are ready.

Tandoori Chicken Curry

Sometimes you get bored by dry tandoori chicken tikka or piece and most importantly when you are expecting more guests at your home then it is better to go tandoori chicken curry. Tandoori chicken curry or gravy is best to eat as a major meal with roti or naan.


  • Boneless Chicken Cubes 1kg
  • Yogurt 4tbsp
  • Red Chilli Powder 2tbsp
  • Red Chilli Flakes 1tbsp
  • Garam Masala 1tbsp
  • Black Pepper 1tbsp
  • Ground Dry Coriander 1/2tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric Powder 1tsp
  • Dry Pomegranate Powder 1tsp
  • Garlic Cloves (chopped) 8-10
  • Ginger Paste 2tbsp
  • Onion 1 medium size (sliced)
  • Tomato 1 (chopped)
  • Tomato Paste 4tbsp
  • Green Chillies 3-5
  • Fresh Green Corriander handful (chopped)
  • Lemon Juice 1tbsp
  • Lemon Slices for garnishing
  • Cooking Oil 2 cups or 4 ounces

Cooking Method

Step 1 (Marinate the Chicken)

Add washed and dry chicken in a deep bowl and put yogurt. Mix well.

Now add salt, red chilli powder, garam masala, ground coriander, red chilli flakes and turmeric powder.

Mix well, cover the bowl and keep it in the refrigerator for two hours.

Step 2 (Chicken Curry)

In a saucepan add cooking oil and heat it. Now add garlic cloves and saute for two minutes. After two minutes add onion slices and saute for two minutes on medium flame until onions become transparent.

Now add marinated chicken and stir for five minutes. Add all the remaining spices while stirring.

After five minutes add chopped tomato and green chillies. Cover the pan for five minutes on medium to high flame.

You will chicken has changed its colour and tomatoes are soften. Now tomato paste and cook for more few minutes. While cooking also sprinkles some black pepper.

Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and lemon slices and transfer into a serving bowl.

Step 3 (Serving Style)

This is a very common and easy method of chicken tandoori. You can make it more appealing by adding more ingredients like ajwain and artificial tikka masala.

However, I also prefer to add some pickle to my tandoori chicken it gives a sour and tangy flavour.

You can also give the smoke of burning coals as a complimentary. Just burn the coals and transfer them to a small serving bowl of iron. Place it in the cooking pan and cover few minutes. You will feel a mesmerizing smell of coals in your chicken tandoori curry.

Special Spicy Sauce for the Tandoori Chicken

It is impossible to enjoy Indian tandoori chicken without spicy sauces. So, here is my special and instant Imli  (tamarind) and mint c.hutney (sauce) to be served.

Take a jug, add two garlic gloves, a handful of fresh mint and coriander leaves, a few imlis without seeds, 2 green chilies, salt as per taste, half teaspoon black paper and a half cup of water. Blend them all on the mixer and serve chill.

Easy Tandoori Chicken Recipe (My go-to Recipe of All Time)


  • Chicken Leg Pieces 3-5
  • Yogurt 2tbsp
  • Gram Flour 4tbsp
  • Red Chilli Flakes 1tbsp
  • Hot Spices 1tbsp
  • Black Pepper 1tbsp
  • Dry Coriander Powder 1tsp
  • Lemon Juice 2tbsp
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Method

Step 1 (Marinate)

In a bowl add gram flour and yogurt together, mix well and make a thick paste.

Now add spices like salt, red chilli flakes, hot spices, black pepper, dry coriander powder and lemon juice. Mix them well with the help of a spoon.

Now mark deep cuts on the chicken pieces. Apply the mixture on each chicken piece with help of your hands. Pour some mixture in the cuts also.

Apply a thick amount of mixture on all the chicken pieces equally and set aside for two hours.

Step 2 (Frying)

Heat cooking oil in a deep pan and put marinated chicken pieces to fry.

Fry from both sides for 20 minutes.

You can also grill these pieces if you don’t like deep-frying.

Serving Style

Always keep in mind, no matter how much time you put on your recipe to make it delicious, but it would never be tempting for the eaters unless and until you have decorated them beautifully.
